Start Your Own Clip Art Business at Home

Are you artistically inclined? Are you looking for a way to make good money as an artist? If you have a computer and can convert your art into digital media, you have the tools you need to turn a talent into a home based clip art business. This article will show you how.

What is Clip Art?

Basically, clip art refers to graphics people use to add interest to their advertisements, magazines, websites, articles, brochures, ebooks—the list goes on and on. Everyone who works with the printed word needs graphics to liven it up. That is where you come in.

How to Start Your Clip Art Empire

First, go online and look at what other clip art businesses are selling. This is your competition. What services do they offer? Most clip art businesses offer their services two ways. Either a customer can pay per graphic they buy, or they purchase a subscription to your website. You will probably want to offer both services at different payment levels.

Once you’re familiar with the competition, you can make some important decisions. Are you going to specialize in a specific type of graphic (i.e. business graphics) or offer a little of everything?

The next step is to develop a sizable collection of clip art. You can create these all yourself, or invite others to contribute. Just make sure to keep your costs low. Come up with a basic website and a catchy name. Your clients should be able to buy clip art at any time from your website.

How to Market Your Website

No one will buy from you if they do not know you exist. Your website is competing with hundreds of others. How do you can attention to your services?

Write content rich articles. Put these articles on your website and on article databases with your website information attached. This builds your name and will attract the search-engines.

Advertise. Choose a market (i.e. ebook writers) and market your services where they will go looking for it. You may also want to submit your clip art to some of the free sites if they will include your contact information with the graphic. Visit some of the local printers in your area and ask if you can leave a few flyers about your services. Run a small add in the classified section of your newspaper—remember to talk about why your services are useful (your graphics will make their advertisements catch a client’s eye, etc.)

Once you have done all of these things, your clip art business is on its way. Be patient. It will need time to grow. While you wait, constantly examine how your marketing campaign is going, and make adjustments as necessary to put your site in front of your prospect’s eyes. You will have a successful business in no time.
